Simple, easy pre-made food mixes for kids.

Hey, I hope you're having a lovely week!

Last week I ran out of hot chocolate mix and just happened to notice the ingredients list on the back of the container, it was loooooong! I knew it would be more than homemade, but it really was quite shocking.

We are not a perfect family, but we are striving to make better choices both with plastic waste and homemade, homegrown food. It's not easy when you are busy, which is what Red Beau is about.

We've put together a couple of super simple recipes that not only reduce waste but also double as fun activities for the kids!

DIY Hot Chocolate Mix: Less Ingredients, More Yum!

This one's a winner for those chilly afternoons (which shouldn't be a spring thing, but we are still getting hail storms in North West England!). Plus, it's a great way to avoid plastic packaging. Here's what you'll need:

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 1 cup icing sugar

Simply mix everything together in a bowl and store it in an airtight container. When it's hot chocolate time, add 4 heaped teaspoons to a mug and fill with hot water (or go even creamier with half milk, half water). Feel free to add cream, marshmallows, or whatever makes your little ones smile.

Pancakes: A Fun & Easy Breakfast the Whole Family Can Enjoy!

Pancakes are a weekend staple in many households, but those pre made mixes often come with a huge list of ingredients. With this recipe, you can ditch the waste without sacrificing the fun!

Here's what you'll need:

  • 625g self-raising flour
  • 100g milk powder
  • 75g sugar

When it's pancake time, simply whisk 1 cup of the mix with just under 1 cup of water. Cook gently in a pan, flipping once the bottom is golden, and serve with butter, fruit, yogurt, or whatever your little ones fancy.

For a mess free option, pop everything in a jar and shake it up together. This is a great way to get little hands involved!

These recipes are just a starting point, of course! Feel free to get creative and add your own family's favourite twists.

We'd love to see your little ones getting crafty and whipping up these yummy treats. Share your photos with us on social media using #redbeau

Happy crafting (and eating!),
